Beaches, Boulders and Birds

Nikaus continue to dominate along the coast. To repeat the photos is merely to reflect the experience - a bit like moss on earlier days.

We meet our first wooden suspension bridge. These still wobble a bit but they're vastly more stable than the wire bridges earlier. Miranda reckons they are infinitely less satisfying. Maybe she has a point. I stop in the middle to take a photo, but I note my hands are sweating too much to make handling a camera a good idea. Carol has no trouble.

The stony creek beds are an endless fascination.

We make the acquaintance of a small bird.

The surf continues to be pretty wild despite it being a relatively calm day.

The path is some way above the beach along here and there are moments when there is no vegetation to speak of between me and the rocks and sea below. My Day 4 experience on the way down to Lewis Hut pays off here.

That's a decent drop.

Speaking of which, I wonder if they sell Waikato Green down this way.

By this time we are getting used to the constant pounding of the surf but there are moments when a little silence would have been extremely welcome. I wonder what it's like in a storm.
